But look what Mr Bok came home with...
It fits in quite well with our old kitchen I think! (can't wait to get a new kitchen...2 years to go!!) - oh and that's Harry in the sink getting a good soaking
A few months ago, my old Le Creuset pot broke (rather I broke it) after nearly 20 years of daily use. Couldn't afford to get another one and have been bereft ever since. Every time I cook I must have been muttering something about missing my pot because finally Mr Bok assured me we'd get another in August...so it's August! and the other day I noticed 30% discount at one of the big stores here and got on the phone right away to reserve one. Mr Bok heard me and gave me a lecture because we are still in so much debt after all that holidaying business. We've all been there. I was chastened but I guess Mr Bok is missing his casseroles and curry and everything else because he came home with it today. Hooray!
Some people covet shoes. Some people covet bags. Some people covet clothes. But not me! Me? In my old holey sweater? I covet pots. And plants. And art prints.
Way to go for 'spending tax return money anyway' as he puts it, even though we haven't even lodged a tax return yet :) Does anyone else do this??
I can't wait to cook with it again.
I like that colour.
ReplyDeleteI think le Creuset is guaranteed for life isn't it? You should check, maybe you could get a new one from them.
Ha.
ReplyDeleteWe I inherited a le creuset from Monkey Man's father. It's fantastic and I use it constantly. I can't imagine how you could break one though.
I know! I am somewhat of a natural disaster VG. Somehow I cracked the side and also the lid. I figure daily use for 20 years was ready to let it go to the pot god. Poor thing. We don't have another heavy based pot so I really missed it. I use it for everything! So happy to have one again. I'll look into the warrantee greenfumb, but if a receipt is required I lost that a loooong time ago!
ReplyDeleteOo oo oo yes! I love le creuset, and I have a fabulous bright orange set from the 1970s! When it dies (if it dies!) I will go straight out and buy another set...
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, how on earth did you break it?? I love the colour of your new one, c'est super chic :)
It looks like a great pot. Here's to many delicious meals cooked in it!
ReplyDeleteoh my....I am envious. I dream of my very own le crueset. Love your gorgeous socking Harry as well.

Beautiful, wish my husband would come home with something like that!
ReplyDeleteWe had a spontaneous spending spree the other weekend, buying Miss M's Christmas present, and a much needed doona cover for us (we've had the old one for about 7 years now!) and though both on special, still cost us a pretty penny... yep, we got on with lodging tax returns that night!!
ReplyDeleteLove, LOVE the pot! A great long term investment...
great pot - I think it really is easier to cook with and has a better result than lesser pots. And I'm sure together we can work out a good justification to also splurge on plants and art prints, even without the hypothetical tax deductions! Actually now I think of it the worst thing about nearly retiring from paid work is that there are no more tax deductions.
ReplyDeleteWell done on Mr. Bok, Le Creuset is a dream to cook on :) Very heavy to use but the way it retains and distributes heat really helps in the quality of the food.
ReplyDeleteOh I think I should get one too. But I really need to nag about it for months...oh maybe year....hehehe..You will have happy cooking time with your new pots and your fresh produce. Nice present!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, it's a great pot to cook in, no wonder you missed it. Here's to 20+ years for this one :D)
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, as I sit in my worn out tracksuit and daggy shoes I have earmarked $tax for a new coffee machine and $infinite for the garden.
ReplyDeleteWe have a bright blue cheaper-version of a Creuset which is good, but my mother-in-law has a retro orange real-deal which has to be 30 years old and much more fabulous than our modern ripoff.
We are all inclined to spend ahead--just look at the US gov't. But a cook cooking pot is a necessity. Absolutely.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I'd rather a pot than a purse or shoes anyday. Far more use out of it! Well done, Mr Bok!
ReplyDeleteHello there Missus Bok!
ReplyDeleteThanks for you r comment of blogs, great to hook up.
My tax / vat return money has to be ring-fenced with 10,000 volt wire to stop me dipping into it. Very tempting, especially when there's a Le Creuset sale on!!!
My bees have been a loooong time coming but will arrive v. shortly (I'm told).
Look forward to you other posts.
I blew my tax return on bannetons and a fancy, definitely unnecessary, thermal laser thermometer. My brother-in-law tried to use the thermometer to take his daughter's temperature last weekend, but the laser wouldn't bend into her ear canal. ;-)
ReplyDeleteA proper cooking pot isn't a luxury though, it's an essential. It's not like you were buying more shoes, but rather your only pair! :)
I have some le creuset myself and can't imagine life without it. I also covet pots.....
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful thing to love: pots. I love your new casserole, too. Yum! Can you share a curry recipe with us? "old holey sweater" love that!
ReplyDeleteOoh. How exciting! My partner is actually a Le Creuset fan, which I find very amusing. His family had them, to my amazement, and it's been a disappointment of his adult life to discover they cost a fortune and aren't in everyone's kitchens. We don't have any (yet!), but I'm sure he'll be supportive if we ever get to affording one :)
ReplyDeleteI love my Le Creuset. I bought all of mine 20 years ago too. Pre kids. Pre husband. My dutch oven is chipped and this is NOT covered. Boo hoo. So I also am longing to replace it. Luckily the three frypans I bought are still going strong. It's so hard to justify that expense isn't it? My fear is that when I'm old and decrepit I won't actually be able to lift them anymore...
ReplyDeleteIt's kitchen gadgets for me... I can't get enough of them. And of course plants--every spring it's a challenge to find a place to put all my new purchases.
ReplyDeleteHow did you break it? Good thing it didn't hit any of your toes hehe... This white one, the colour is special :-D
ReplyDeleteHello! Yes I managed to crack it. In two places. By dropping it several times over many years...and dropping a mortar and pestle into it when trying to empty said mortar and pestle into it!! Also snapped the lid handle thing in half. I'm been known as 'zilla in the past because of my ability to accidentally cause havoc!
ReplyDeleteLucky you! We have only one piece of Le Creuset and boy we just love it! There are three more pieces that I would just love to get.
ReplyDeleteI too covet Le Creuset and hope to have one of my own one day!
ReplyDeleteIn a word .... YES!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI recieved my Le Creuset pots as wedding gifts - just love them!!
I've always wanted one if these pots. Now I'm convinced....must have one!! Great blog post. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty pot. I have a lovely blue one and I call it my Big Blue. So versatile, I love it. Thanks for stopping by my blog,
ReplyDeleteCheers - Joolz
