That b*stard fox took my entire flock AGAIN

I'm angry.

Angry with myself for not bolting the coop to my feathered family properly last night.

Angry at the fox for returning night after night after night in the last 6 months and taking my entire flock. Again.

Mostly angry at myself.

And I'm sad sad sad sad sad.

  1. I'll bet you are angry. I'm so so sorry that this has happened to you again. From all your lovely posts I can tell how much your feathered family means to you, and this just seems terribly unfair. Please don't be too harsh on yourself though :(

    So sorry Mrs Bok.

  3. Oh no, you poor thing. How very sad. I was only last night thinking of you and your solar flashing lights and thinking I might put some up myself. Sending you big hugs.

  6. YOu poor thing. I can't believe this is happening to you again. The only sure fire way you are going to scare that fox off is to get a dog....but then you have to make sure the dog doesn't get the chickens but you have more of a show there. After all your efforts it's so devastating.

  7. Oh how horrible, you must be feeling so bad, but its not your fault, foxes tend to go to extreme lengths to get to chickens even when they appear to be locked up, they will stop at nothing to get to them. :(
I was just googling your blog last night and admiring your hens as I am choosing some more to add to my flock and wanted ideas on small bantams. So sorry to hear, hope the kids are ok too, stupid greedy fox!!! xx

  10. Oh nooooooo, Mrs B. Nasty Mr Fox is the cruelest B.....d. And the thing that gets me is that they can't eat them all at once. I so hear you after our disaster. Have a good cry, lift your shoulders and head high - you are a great chook girl - its Nasty Mr Fox who is at fault not you! BTW, the dog idea isn't a bad one (but not a puppy)...look after yourself and huge cyber hugs. You don't deserve this. Alison

  11. Dear Mrs Bok, I'm soooo sorry to hear about your loss.
Your beautiful, little feathered family, we all enjoyed reading about.............

Maybe it's time to put an ad. in the paper for a bounty hunter!! May be a bit extreme.......
Can the local council give you any advice? Maybe they have some sort of trap (eg. possum traps) Catch the nasty thing and relocate it.........just a thought.

So many things to think of and things to do, don't be too down on yourself........... sending hugs,

    Claire :}

  12. oh flip. Doesn't it just make you want to swear. When I am angry and upset I throw myself face down on the bed and bite my pillow really hard - and yell a bit! - this is probably far too much information and you most likely think I'm a right idiot now ( and odd!) but it does help. I feel so sorry for you. Why oh why do the foxes do this. I don't even think they're hungry. I'm sending you a huge virtual hug and a pillow xxx

  16. You poor poor thing, how horrible for you. No wonder you are sad.

Don't blame yourself, foxes are incredibly devious and determined. They can chew threw wire to get what they want.

  23. Oh the heart break of the urban herdsman--woman. We had not seen the fox around here for a long time. Thought he might have met his fate; however, the mister had to make a very late night run to the barn during our last snow storm and he saw the fox trotting through the pasture. So we know that he has his eyes on our little hens. Dare I say that the head gardener at the Garden Spot is well armed, though it is probably illegal to shoot the fox these days. It really is aggravating when a forgetful moment has such awful results. I really am sorry for your lost flock. I hope you don't give up on your hens.

  25. oh dear - what terrible news :( that bloody cunning fox - don't beat yourself up too much - you're fighting against their natural instinct I'm afraid, and your chickens had a lovely clucky life whilst they were with you.

  26. Oh no! I just found this. I can't believe it! That is horrible. As you say, it is the fact that he just kept returning, waiting for the opportunity. Poor Mrs Bok, and poor chooks! Will you try again, or is your spirit broken? You could get more chickens AND a dog.
